Songs that Stumped Shazam

Having only had the Shazam app for a few weeks now, I occasionally test it with a song I already know and am listening to. So far, Shazam has not been able to identify the following two songs, so check them out:

and

Sweet Song of Salvation by Larry Norman on Grooveshark

Feel free to comment and share any songs with which you have also stumped Shazam.

Out of the mouths of babes...

So, just as I was thinking to myself last week, this Master Cleanse fast does really make my skin look and feel better, I was hit with an honest opinion from an outside source. Calvin, my youngest child was playing with the other neighborhood boys - a group of them ranging in age from 5-9. I called down to Calvin to ask him a question and he answered me, naturally addressing me as "Mom." To which one of the boys started laughing and said, “Mom? I thought she was your grandma!” So I rather think the fast has made me delirious from lack of food, and my earlier assessment of my skin was, ummm, unreliable. Edited to add: This also points to another facet of US culture. The age range of motherhood. I think Calvin’s friend’s mother was in her late teens or early 20’s when she had him. I was 35 when I had Calvin, so I am indeed closer to the age of the child’s grandmother than his mother.

Random New Year Ramble

"Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend, inside of a dog it's too dark to read."
Groucho Marx said that. Yesterday I asked my Siri to search the web for a book, and "she" quoted that. It made me laugh. I am on a modified version of the Master Cleanse Fast (you can google if you're curious). Big Daddy and I try to do some sort of special fasting and prayer at the onset of the new year, as an act of reverence toward God. It's a time of sober reflection, thankfulness, and seeking His will and direction for the new year. I find today difficult, but yesterday was not. I was awash with inspiration and ideas yesterday. Today I feel sluggish and have a headache (caffeine withdrawal, I suspect) and I am distracted by the macaroni and cheese the kids had for lunch. But it's just today, and a little challenge, and it will pass and I am sure tomorrow will be better.

Ice, Ice Maybe

This was originally written 5-31-11

I cannot get enough ice lately! So I googled and discovered that anemic individuals often report a craving for chewing on ice! Since I have dealt with anemia on and off all my adult life I am taking my supplements now more than ever! Then I talked to a good friend who has been dealing with Lyme disease has also been craving and chewing on ice because she also has anemia. Her doctor recommended a slow-release iron supplement, hope it helps.
Since writing that I have been taking a SlowFE supplement and it's working.

Our oldest child will graduate from high school in about a week. Then school will be out for summer. It's been busy and stressful with all of that, and we have a pretty full summer this year.

Sweet Leaf now (see above), Sweet Leaf 25 years ago. It made me laugh when I thought of that while purchasing and trying Sweet Leaf Iced Tea when it was on a sale promotion. Thank you Jesus for the change!

I have been thinking about forgiveness and love, what with visiting that Love Hurts, God Heals post and how the parable of the Prodigal Son and all Jesus' other teachings on the subject. Can there be forgiveness without fellowship and restoration? Can I truly forgive those who hurt me if I don't wish to be around them or have much to do with them? I suppose I think if I were to be around them I would only be hurt further. Particularly when they refuse to acknowledge and accept responsibility for their own part in the strain, or have some sort of changed "fruit" in their life? I have forgiven, prefer to keep my distance though, and have felt lately other people seem to be pushing for more contact than I think is helpful or necessary. What do you think?

My Life in Titles

What Falls Away, How Stella Got Her Groove Back. These are titles to movies and books that caught my eye. Don't think of the plots or story lines of those books because I am not even going there. This is personal. I'm making this post about how a title grabs you because it's clever, interesting AND somehow applies your own self. For some reason I read more Sunday newspaper book reviews than I read of the actual books reviewed in the paper, and on the bestseller list. Don't get me wrong, I love to read, I just don't read as many books as I read about books. Occasionally as I do this I have come across titles that just resonate - but I haven't read the book, so I adopt them in my own silly mind. I have written before of the title 'How Stella Got Her Grove Back' because all those years ago, I was immediately stuck by the notion that my groove was [also] gone, or rather misplaced, and I knew that like Stella, I needed to find it and get it back. Of course, Stella's grove and mine represent different aspects of our lives, but the need to get back in the flow - on your game - recapturing a 'Joie de Vivre' - whatever you want to call it - I needed it. "What Falls Away" is another post for another day.

It took awhile, but I found it and I now say, "Welcome home groove." I've missed you. Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.*
On a side note, my memoir might be titled, "She Came Late (and Left Early)."

~?~
So I ask you, Dear Reader(s), because I'm curious, have you ever read a title and thought - "Well, why didn't I think of that for my autobiography!?" If so, would you like to share about it a little? I would love to hear your titles.

An Observation

In love,
the first cut is the deepest.
In the morning,
the last sip is the sweetest.
Of coffee that is,
if you haven't stirred it thoroughly.
But it's a very nice thing,
to have the best at last.

Messageboards and other random thoughts

At one time participating in a few message-boards was a lifeline for me. I really enjoyed the discourse about various subjects from a wide variety of people. I used to visit a parenting board, a self-help board, and tinkered around in some hobby boards. They can be quite interesting.

I have 3 all-time favorites, and here are two of them:
Hippie Christian Family and ChristianBoard
~

I like saying and writing "all-time favorite."

I like Alton Brown.

I was thinking about California because I lived there a long time ago, and because the little town where I lived had a huge Pumpkin Festival each year. It was known for growing pumpkins, flowers and Brussels sprouts.

Speaking of things that grow in California...I have been seeing a few shows about legalizing marijuana in California. I just know that if pot were legal and I finagled a prescription, me and my family would be in a heap of trouble. I am just amazed that people can get a prescription and there are little pharmacies that sell the stuff.

Anyway, I miss Half Moon Bay sometimes. It was/is a beautiful place.

Weird Thought, #1.
Do you remember the old TV show The Addams Family? When Morticia the wife would say a word or two in French, husband Gomez would shower her hand and arm with kisses. My following thought, odd and inappropriate perhaps, is along those lines. It crossed my mind nonetheless. I'll fully disclose in a minute, bear with me as I set it up. I thought this thought because I had watched the move Sling Blade (good movie) for the first time in years and years. Then, I heard 80's hair band Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me" (never liked that song or band). Here is how it went in my (twisted) mind:
Poison song + Sling Blade + Morticia & Gomez = What if one was turned on by their beloved speaking sweet nothings to them in an unusual character's accent? Like Yosemite Sam's voice or Witch Hazel? Think about it the next time your sweetheart is whispering tender words of love, imagine those words in a rather unusual voice, and you will probably giggle and wish you could stop thinking about that.

Are New Yorkers More Rude Than Others?

Not in my limited experience! I know that it is a fairly common perception that New Yorkers can be brusque, brash and bold, and yes downright rude, but that is just not the case. I found them to be pleasant and helpful overall. One kind woman from a fashionable boutique directed us to another nearby store that sold umbrellas. She did this during a rain shower, and went out of her way to come outside to tell us - we were huddled under a nearby awning. That little incident was typical of our experience. Things moved at a faster pace, but that does not equal rudeness in most cases. Any rudeness we encountered was incidental and no more or no less that we'd observe anywhere.

On a side note, I did observe that subway cars, as crowded as they are, are unusually quiet, even when full. See, I think in the South folks would be chatting, even strangers. But that brings me to another observation. The pervasive use of texting on cell-phones and ear-buds in MP3 players has moved our human communication and interaction into another dimension.

Your Song?

Somebody recently asked, as a couple what is “your song?”

[Is your song Your Song? hehehe]

The song that reminds Big Daddy of us is "Heaven" by Bryan Adams.
The song that reminds me of him is "I Got You Babe" the version done by UB40 and Chrissie Hynde.

::sigh:::Twas nighteen-eighty-five, and we were so young, sweet, naive and hopeful! Those were good times.

Our joke song is "I Remember You" by Skid Row, because one time we were driving with it cranked up on the radio as a joke. We were never big Skid Row fans (though we couldn't help but appreciate Sebastian Bach's fabulous hair). In fact, we liked to mock the hair bands and much of metal that was on MTV's Headbanger's ball during that era, even though we liked our share of metal. Anyway, we were driving from Sarasota to Orlando one day and got a flat tire, while listening to that song and singing with faux-passion at the top of our lungs. So now that song just reminds us of that goofy day and now we kind of like the song. It has a nice acoustic guitar in the beginning and all...

We were/are such music fans there are so many songs that remind us of each other, I suppose. Sometimes Big Daddy walks around singing "Over The Hills And Far Away" to me, which is funny because he was never the Zeppelin fan, I was. He will sing “Lady, you got the love I need…” It’s sort of sweet, really, and makes me feel good when he sings it to me. I love the way the acoustic guitar trails off and the tiny bit of organ music at the end of that song too.

I can't presume to speak for Big Daddy but he has mentioned "Me and Honey," and "Home" and this one as fitting at various times in our life together. For me there are so many in addition to the ones mentioned above. A few more of mine: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Harvest Moon, Skyway and By Your Side.

There are a few songs that remind me immediatly of some of my friends because they were played at their weddings. It's sweet to think of those times.

So, what songs remind you of your spouse? Did you play them at your wedding? Do you still listen to them?

Odd Observation

Ram 1500 Pictures, Images and Photos

This morning, I saw a gleaming-white, large, Dodge Ram pick-up truck with black Louis Vuitton logos all over it.

Dude, get an Escalade (or a Lincoln). I'm just sayin'.
