Create It Forward Exercise

This January I received the following note from a Facebook friend:

Awesome idea: I pledge to Create It Forward this New Year!I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 folks who leave a comment to this update.HERE'S THE CATCH: U MUST in turn promise to post this and send something U have made to the first 5 posters on your status (plus me!). The rules are that it must be handmade by U & it MUST be sent to your 5+1 people sometime in 2011! It's more fun if we pass it on!

Please don't respond to that - I am only quoting it. That exercise/giveaway has already begun, BUT, I will do another blog giveaway soon, because it's been so long. I am working, gradually, on this project. I am using India ink, Prismacolor pencils, and some really nice natural fiber paper (tobacco, banana) I discovered on a lark at a local discount store. I am keeping it simple and fun, letting creativity flow rather than get hung up on how naive and simplistic my drawings are. It is fun!

No April Fooling - I really am working on it!

That's gorgeous!! I love the effect of the pencils on that paper. Do you know the weight of the paper...is it really rough? From here it looks like the paper is grabbing the pencil pigments and turning it into a pastel drawing.

I haven't taken the plunge into Prisma pencils yet. But I have moved up from Crayola to a student grade, that is definitely blendable. That's what I was trying out last night.

Your work is great!

Thanks, NoviceArtist! It's 80 gram paper - and about 5" X 6". I did a little blending, not much. I think you will like the Prismas - go ahead and plunge! I am letting my inner child doodle. My inner child happens to be influenced by Grandma Moses, Rev. Howard Finster, Peter Max and Yellow Submarine-era Beatles, lol. If you feel comfortable PMing me your address, I will be happy to send you a couple of the little notepads, provided the discount store still has them on Monday. I like that the paper is either off-white or brown and the white and light colors pop against it.

I love the fact you're using anything you want to get the picture you want, india ink and pencil is a great mix. Looking at your picture I thought Peter Max instantly as an influence, and a great one too. You should check out Odilon Redon if you haven't already. Very different but I think you might like him. Keep up the good work.

That is pretty! Good for you for doing something you love.

I was reading your post on black sheep and not fitting in. Thought it was well written. I find myself in the same boat of not being "it" whatever it is supposed to be. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

@Peter - Redon is one of my favorites! I think I cried a little when I saw an original at the MET in NYC last summer! I also like Paul Cezanne and Georgia O'Keefe very much, among many others. Peter have you done a blog entry on your influences - I haven't looked to deeply around your site yet?

@Joanna - Thanks for stopping by also and commenting. I like your blog, I love to laugh so you had me at hello with your current post. I try to do a funny Friday post on a regular basis.

Hi E.B. Thanks for asking, my influences are mostly storytellers of one kind or another as my first interest in art was stirred by cartoonists. I've got a sightly neglected main site along with the two blogs and I did a post there http://peter-bangs.yolasite.com/september-roads/influence-map about influences. Just to look at I love Klimt, Mucha and Van Gogh, Redon is great and Peter Blake who did the Sergeant Pepper album art all rate highly. Whistler's riverscapes are also fantastic. The list really does go on and on.
