Hell Is Hot And Time Is Short

I have heard my Father-in-Law, a wonderful pastor and all around good Christian man, say it this way, "There is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun." I was reminded of these sentiments while reading a good post over at MMI (Monday Morning Insight). It was a good reminder about keeping ministry-related things in proper perspective. Too many times we get focused on things that don't really matter when measured in regards to eternity. Simply following Jesus and pointing others in His direction by our deeds and words is what I try to do. I try not to let the less important things like church decor and worship music style become a distraction. Though I certainly think I would love to have music like this, this, or this at the local church. It's surprising how many church people squabble over things such as worship music style and carpet color. Any pastor can tell you that some people are fickle and will leave a church if they don't like the music, or the new pew upholstery. It's surprising how many of us (myself included) let these kind of small things cause rifts or simply personal distraction within the body of Christ. I made it click-able to explain because it's a churchy term and some folks who aren't familiar with church-speak might stop by. Anyway, the church is supposed to be a good force on this earth and sadly sometimes we can't get it together enough because we stay focused on stuff that won't last or make a difference in the long run.
